For the last 25 years, Maria Patricia Curbelo Fernandez has been part of several research projects related to mesophotic and deep-sea bottoms at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Research, Development, and Innovation Center of Petrobras. In addition to the characterization of large marine basins, her special interest has focused on the biodiversity and ecology of sensitive environments, such as rhodolith beds and deep-sea corals. Sampling and imaging of these unique environments is as challenging as amazing.
Maria Patricia has her B.Sc. from Universidad de la República-Uruguay, and her MSc. and Ph.D. at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Her extensive field experience, including cruises and diving, allowed her to participate in remote projects on oceanic islands and Antarctica. The Journey to the Unknown in Uruguayan waters will be a fantastic and enriching experience, a consequence of the contributions of a great team.
