Dr. Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Chiesa is a researcher at the Centro Austral de Investigaciones Científicas (CADIC-CONICET) in Ushuaia, Argentina. He earned his Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Buenos Aires, where he worked as a teaching assistant for ten years. As a marine biologist, his research focuses on the systematics, biogeography, and ecology of marine amphipods (Crustacea: Peracarida), including the discovery of new species, and their distribution patterns and ecological interactions with other invertebrates. In recent years, he has also investigated microplastic pollution in benthic invertebrates and marine environments. Ignacio has participated in numerous oceanographic surveys aboard Argentine research vessels, exploring Antarctica, MPAs in the southern Argentine Sea, and the deep waters of the Mar del Plata Submarine Canyon. During his first expedition aboard the Falkor (Too), he will return to this highly biodiverse canyon, marking his first opportunity to explore the ocean depths using the advanced ROV SuBastian.
