
Georgina Ramírez-Ortiz is a marine biologist and scientific diver with a strong interest in the ecology and conservation of marine ecosystems. She has a master’s degree in marine ecology and a doctorate in the use, management, and preservation of natural resources. In 2022, she participated as a postdoc in a project focused on the exploration of mesophotic reefs using remotely operated vehicles before joining ICML-UNAM as an associate researcher, leading the Laboratorio de Ecología Funcional & Conservación Marina. Her research focuses on the population dynamics of commercial fish, the functional ecology of marine fauna in shallow and deep habitats, and the effectiveness of marine protected areas in promoting ecological resilience against climate and anthropogenic threats. As an enthusiast of science communication, she and her team participate in various projects to promote the conservation of marine ecosystems and interest in science among youth.
