Gabriela earned her Ph.D. in Biodiversity with research focused on the trophic ecology, population structure, and migrations of sea turtles. Since then, her research interests have expanded to include the interconnections among marine organisms across different spatial scales, from individuals to populations. Since 2021, she has been an assistant professor at the Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de la República (Uruguay), and a Level 1 researcher in the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI–ANII). She has published 33 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, contributed to several book chapters, and is the lead author of the Guía Visual de Macroalgas de Uruguay. For the past five years, she has coordinated small-scale oceanographic expeditions aboard a research sailboat. In addition, Gabriela is actively engaged with civil society organizations and is committed to promoting ocean literacy. This will be her first experience aboard a research vessel of this kind, and she looks forward to contributing in every possible way to the success of this historic campaign for Uruguay.
