Faustino Arribalzaga is a marine geologist and a member of the Oceanography Department at the Naval Hydrographic Service (SHN), an institute under the Argentine Ministry of Defence. His work is based on the analysis of sediment cores and the interpretation of sedimentary processes in deep marine environments. He contributes both to a better understanding of sediment dynamics in the Southwest Atlantic and to providing seafloor knowledge for defence purposes.
Faustino holds a degree in Geology from the University of La Plata and is undertaking a PhD focused on morphosedimentary processes on the continental rise on Buenos Aires region a little-known sector of the Argentine continental margin.
In previous campaigns, he has participated in sediment core acquisition. The Falkor expedition, A Tale of Two Submarine Canyons, will be his second research cruise, where he will contribute to the acquisition and interpretation of multibeam bathymetric data, sub-bottom profiles, and core samples aimed at understanding the formation and evolution of the seafloor.
