Emanuel is a postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Biodiversidad y Biología Experimental y Aplicada (IBBEA, UBA-CONICET) and Departamento de Biodiversidad y Biología Experimental (DBBE, UBA.Exactas), Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is interested in the taxonomy, systematics and biogeography of deep-sea crustaceans, with a focus on the order Isopoda from off Argentina. His research has greatly increased the knowledge of the biodiversity of deep-sea isopods from the Argentine Continental Slope, in particular from the Mar del Plata Submarine Canyon. He also has extensive experience working with material from museum collections, mainly those collected in the Southern Ocean. Currently, Dr. Pereira is working on the integrative taxonomy of deep-sea antarcturid isopods from off Argentina, including population genetic dynamics to understand the deep-sea connectivity along the northern and southern Argentine Continental Slope.

Emanuel has received several grants to support his research, including the DSBS Support Award (2023), PADI foundation (2024) and the AMNH Lerner-Gray Award (2024). In addition, he has received two fellowships (2021 and 2024) from German Academic Service Exchange (DAAD) to visit the Crustacean Collection from Zoologisches Museum Hamburg, Germany. More recently, he was invited to participate in the next Ocean Census Workshop in Chile (August 2025) to discover new species from the South Sandwich Expedition.
