Elan is interested in the composition and distribution of pelagic forage communities and the ways that predators partition resources. In the Choy Lab, Elan uses stomach content analyses, midwater trawl samples, and statistical methods to address fundamental pelagic ecology questions. He received a Ph.D. in Biology from Stanford University in 2019 and was an NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate at NOAA before joining the Choy Lab in 2021 as a postdoc
