Cherisse is currently an MRes student in Marine Biology at the University of Plymouth where her work focuses on deep-sea biodiversity and ecological connectivity. Building on her Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, with minors in GIS and Pre-Health, she has developed a strong interest in understanding how marine ecosystems are connected across vast and understudied ocean environments. Alongside her research, Cherisse has gained experience across a range of marine science and conservation initiatives in Trinidad and Tobago, including fisheries research, biodiversity data management, marine ecological fieldwork, and laboratory-based biological analysis. Her work has involved underwater surveys, specimen identification and collaborative research projects focused on marine biodiversity and environmental monitoring. Driven by curiosity and a passion for discovery, Cherisse is also enthusiastic about science communication and making deep-sea research more accessible to wider audiences. Through her work, she hopes to contribute to both scientific understanding and greater public appreciation of the remarkable biodiversity hidden beneath the ocean surface.
