Caterina Maria Antognazza is a biologist, currently a Postdoc researcher in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Science (DiSTA) at the University of Insubria (Italy), where her main focus is on freshwater ecosystem management, biodiversity conservation and the phylogenetic evolution of animals closely related to aquatic habitats. Her research is oriented towards biogeography, phylogenetics and conservation of aquatic species, mainly along the Italian peninsula.

Caterina received her Ph.D. at Bournemouth University (UK) where she focused on conservation genetics of a migratory with also the development and application of novel eDNA based techniques for monitoring spawning activity of anadromous species and fish communities’ assessment in the context of a fragmented river system.

The Chile Margin expedition will be her first research cruise, an exciting growing opportunity which enable expanding her expertise in the field of deep-sea biodiversity.
