I am a geologist by training, and did my Master’s and PhD in Marine Geology and Geophysics. Since 2004, I have been a Professor at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, teaching Ocean Mapping, Submarine Geomorphology, Marine Stratigraphy, Carbonate Sedimentology, and Seabed Habitat Mapping. I have acted as supervisor of 12 post-docs, 11 PhD students, and 28 MSc students. I coordinate a number of projects on Seabed Mapping, Marine Stratigraphy, and Submarine Geomorphology. My research interests are geomorphology as a proxy for habitat mapping and sea-level change, and marine stratigraphy, with a focus on reef geology and sedimentary responses to sea-level and climate change. In the past year I have been developing studies on deep sea habitat mapping and sediemntary processes. I have published more than 120 scientific papers and participated in numerous national and international cruises. Over the past 8 years, I have served as coordinator of the Brazilian Marine Geology and Geophysics Program.
