R/V Falkor (too) – Hiring Job Information – AV/IT Engineer
Tendering:

Job Description:
The AV/IT Engineer reports to the Chief Engineer on board Falkor (too) and to the shoreside Company IT Manager & Deputy IT Manager.
The duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to these highlevel areas:
- Audio Video
- Networking
- IT
- Cybersecurity
- Comms
- Internet at sea
- Support other departments and special personnel in AV/IT, electrical, and electronics
- Power distribution
- Documentation update
- Maintenance of systems
- Implementation of new projects
- Maintenance of inventory, ticketing, and report
Specific requirements for this position:
- IT Infrastructure: Manage all shipboard IT, including enterprise-level networking, virtualization (e.g., ESXi), cybersecurity, firewall configuration, data management, backups, and domain controllers.
- Audio/Video Systems: Oversee all AV systems, including CCTV, video, and audio distribution (Video/Audio over IP , routing, modulation), conference systems, entertainment, Sat TV, and centralized AV control.
- Communications: Maintain and troubleshoot all internal and external communication systems, including VSAT, LEO satellite systems, UHF, DAS, and PBX.
- Technical Support & Training: Act as a Helpdesk agent, following ITSM procedures. Assist all crew and visiting scientists. Provide crew training on cybersecurity and the vessel’s IT architecture.
- Electrical Team Collaboration: Work closely with the vessel’s Electro Technical Officer (ETO) as part of the Engine Department’s electrical team, assisting each other as needed and cross-training to ensure system redundancy.
- Documentation: Maintain technical documentation and drawings, ensuring they are accurate and up-to-date.
- Reporting: Provide daily, collaborative reporting and maintain stock records of spares and consumables.
Desirable additional skills/qualifications:
- Technical Proficiency: Strong enterprise-level networking skills (CCNA certification or similar highly desired). Must have excellent installation skills and strong knowledge of Fiber-Optics troubleshooting and termination.
- Cybersecurity: Demonstrated strong knowledge of Firewalls (certification is highly desired), and other cybersecurity-related certifications.

Hands-on action: Ensure the consistent, positive use of tools and equipment, whether for new installations or maintenance, and demonstrate proof of installation skills during the interview.

General Requirements for all crew:
- Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training
- Valid Seafarers Medical Fitness Certificate (ENG1 or equivalent recognised by Cayman Islands)
- Seafarer’s Discharge Book
- Passport
- Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
- Good communication skills, including English language speaking and comprehension.
- Negative drug test result on first day of employment.
- Clean Criminal Record; background check verified prior to employment.
