Dr. Gradone is an oceanographer and marine technologist studying how ocean circulation and mixing respond to climate change. His research combines autonomous underwater gliders, shipboard observations, and numerical modeling to better understand the transport of heat, salt, oxygen, and carbon through the ocean, with a focus on the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic circulation. Joe earned his B.S. in Geology from the University of Colorado Boulder, M.S. in Oceanography from the University of Delaware, Ph.D. in Oceanography from Rutgers University, and previously worked at Teledyne Webb Research supporting the development and operation of Slocum gliders around the world. As chief scientist aboard the R/V Falkor (too), he is excited to lead collaborative, technology-driven ocean research and support the next generation of marine scientists and engineers.
