Shalanka Ranjula, from Sri Lanka, is an MPhil candidate in Environmental Biology at the University of the West Indies (St. Augustine), whose studies are fully funded through the ‘Our Shared Ocean Master’s Scholarship’ from Ireland. His current research focuses on sea turtle ecology in Trinidad and Tobago, specifically investigating plastic ingestion, pollutant exposure, and dietary shifts. Shalanka earned his B.Sc. (Hons) in Fisheries and Marine Science from the Ocean University of Sri Lanka. His broader research interests include sea turtle ecology, larval fish taxonomy, marine pollution, and fisheries management. He is also an Advanced Open Water Diver and certified freediver. Combining hands-on fieldwork with effective science communication, he aims to contribute to innovative, solution-driven research that supports sustainable ocean stewardship and informed conservation strategies.
