Juliano Palacios Abrantes is a marine scientist specializing in climate-change impacts on marine ecosystems and social–ecological systems, from regional and global perspectives. His research integrates climate and marine-ecosystem models, data science, and policy-relevant analysis to understand climate-driven shifts in marine species’ distributions and their implications for conservation, fisheries management, and ocean governance. He has led and contributed to international research initiatives across the Americas, supporting universities, regional institutions and NGOs in science–policy processes. He has also contributed to national and international assessments on climate change impacts and adaptation. Given his Brazilian/Mexican heritage, Juliano is deeply committed to supporting Global South–led initiatives to address environmental challenges, while empowering new generations of scientists and practitioners. During the expedition, he will contribute to the collection and analysis of deep-sea imagery to characterize benthic communities and investigate ecological connectivity and species’ distributions across the region.
