I am a final-year BSc. Biology student specialising in Biotechnology and Marine Biology at the University of the West Indies, and my academic interests include marine conservation, oceanography, and biodiversity research. Growing up, I spent a lot of time along the North Coast of Trinidad, which sparked my early interest in oceans and marine life. Over time, this developed into a stronger curiosity about what lies beyond the shoreline, especially the deeper, less explored parts of the ocean. As such, this has shaped my interest in understanding and helping to protect marine ecosystems, and along with my studies, I have developed a strong appreciation for Trinidad and Tobago’s marine life and the importance of scientific exploration. Outside of academics, I enjoy hiking, reading, and engaging in anything creative or artistic, as I enjoy balancing scientific work with activities that keep me connected to nature and creativity. Joining this deep-sea expedition is an exciting opportunity for me to step beyond the classroom and experience scientific exploration firsthand. I am eager to learn from researchers in the field, contribute to meaningful work, and gain a deeper understanding of the deep water of Trinidad and Tobago. The idea of exploring environments that so few people ever get to witness is both inspiring and exciting to me. I hope this experience will strengthen my skills as a young scientist, deepen my appreciation for marine conservation, and further inspire my future goals in ocean science.
