What We Look For
We are searching for an enthusiastic, safety-conscious team worker who shares in the team spirit on board (it is extremely important that the candidate will fit in well with the crew).
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Ability to conduct tasks independently and perform to a high professional standard.
- A positive attitude towards other crewmembers, scientists, and special personnel, alongside an overall appreciation and support of the objectives of other shipboard departments.
- The ability to work extended hours and remain flexible (within MLC requirements) while at sea in remote locations on voyages of up to two months in duration.
- A willingness to go the “extra mile” to adapt to the special demands of a research vessel on every expedition.
- An interest in oceanographic science and a positive attitude towards a healthy marine environment.

Job Description
Reporting directly to the Bosun, your key responsibilities will include:
- Forming part of our drydock deck team.
- Assisting with over-the-side operations (e.g., deployment/recovery of scientific equipment).
- Operating the ship’s offshore and deck cranes, overboarding systems, and deck machinery.
- Performing steel preparation with manual and power tools (needle-guns, grinders, etc.).
- Painting the interior and exterior of the ship (using Jotun brand paint products).
- Washing down the upper decks and assisting the Interior Department team with cleaning, as required.
- Assisting with and driving the ship’s workboat and rescue boat.
- Assisting in provisioning, taking stores, and managing garbage.
- Other tasks as directed by the Chief Officer, Bosun, or Assistant Bosun.
Position Requirements
Specific Requirements:
- Able Seafarer – Deck STCW II/5 (for AB applicants only)
- STCW II/4 Rating forming Part of a Navigational Watch certificate
Desirable Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Welding and other metalwork skills
- Tank entry training and experience
- Experience working on vessels during drydock periods
- Fluent in English with conversational Spanish speaking skills
- General Requirements for All Crew:
- Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training
- Valid Seafarer Medical Certificate (must be accepted by the Cayman Islands)
- Seafarer Discharge Book
- Valid Passport
- Proficiency in Designated Security Duties
- Good communication skills, including English language speaking and comprehension
- Negative drug test result on the first day of employment
- Clean Criminal Record (background check verified prior to employment)
