Silvina Botta is a biologist who graduated from the National University of La Plata in Argentina. She holds a PhD and MSc degrees in Biological Oceanography from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG) in Brazil, where she is currently a professor and researcher at the Institute of Oceanography. She is the coleader of the Marine Megafauna Ecology and Conservation Laboratory (Ecomega), which conducts several research projects focusing on the ecology of marine megafauna and their pelagic environments in coastal and oceanic areas off the coast of Brazil and Antarctica. Her research focus is in the biology and ecology of marine mammals, with an emphasis on trophic ecology and habitat use, topics that she researches using stable isotope analysis techniques, among others.
