Dr. Danilo L. Calliari is an associate professor in the Oceanography and Marine Ecology laboratory (Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences), Faculty of Sciences of Universidad de la República, Uruguay. Main research interests by Dr. Calliari include the ecophysiology of plankton and environmental modulation of their vital rates, the biogeochemistry of carbon in the pelagic realm, and the carbon flows associated to planktonic activity in connection to physical processes. Investigations by his team typically involve the evaluation of both phytoplankton and zooplankton abundance and community structure, respiration and production rates along the characterization of the physical and biogeochemical environment. Dr. Calliari was Munkedall fellow – Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences during one of his post-docs in Sweden, is part of the editorial board of Pan America Journal of Aquatic Sciences and Associate Editor for the Journal of Plankton Research. He got his bachelor’s degree in biology in the Universidad de la República and a PhD in Oceanography at the University of Concepción, Chile.
