Laura Ruiz Etcheverry is an Assistant Researcher at the Centro de Investigaciones del Mar y la Atmósfera in Buenos Aires, Argentina—one of the scientific institutes of the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). She is also a professor at the University of Buenos Aires, where she teaches courses in physical oceanography at both the undergraduate and PhD levels. Dr. Ruiz Etcheverry currently mentors four PhD students.

Her research focuses on sea level dynamics in the Southwestern Atlantic, from intraseasonal variability to long-term trends. She is also interested in the physical processes that modulate CO₂ fluxes and chlorophyll distribution.

Laura holds a degree in Oceanography and a PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanographic Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires. After completing her PhD, she spent three years at the University of Hawai‘i, where she studied salinity fronts using satellite imagery.

Dr. Ruiz Etcheverry is the principal investigator of an international project related to the SWOT altimetry mission and co-PI of the “Tale of Two Canyons” expedition, led by an all-women team. For this expedition, she is responsible for the logistics and setup of surface drifters and moorings.
