I have been passionate about the sea and science since childhood. Although my scientific training comes from being a Chemical Engineer (University of the Republic, 1982), I have been working for decades as a citizen scientist, participating in numerous research topics and collecting malacological material, including new species being described and more than half a dozen scientific articles. My primary interest lies in micromollusks (species with adults smaller than 5 mm), where the largest number of new species awaiting malacological description are found. I first joined the Malacological Society of Uruguay and then the National Museum of Natural History in Montevideo. My participation in the campaign and in all the subsequent analysis of the samples obtained is a tribute to all the great Uruguayan and regional malacologists who preceded me and from whom I learned.
