Luiz Antonio Pereira de Souza, is usually called LAPS, as these four letters are the initial letters of his full name. He is a Geologist, Geophysicist and also a Photographer. He graduated, as Geologist, in 1981 from the Institute of Geosciences of the University of São Paulo (USP) and got his PhD on Geological and Geophysical Oceanography in 2006 from the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo. He worked as researcher at the Institute of Technological Research of the State of São Paulo – IPT, from 1981 to 2022 (41 years) dealing with Geosciences in the field of Applied Geophysics, focusing on geophysical investigation by continuous seismic profiling (boomer, sparker and chirp), side scan sonar and bathymetry. Since 2022 he is a technical diretor of LAPS Consulting Ltda, a consulting company on applied geophysics. He has published many articles and book chapters and also a book: Geophysics Applied to Engineering and Environmental Geology: Manual of Good Practices (2022). He use to work as a invited researcher at University of São Paulo joining cruises to deep sea on RV Alpha Crucis, and to shallow continental shelf on RV Alpha Delphini, both ships belonging to University of São Paulo.
