María Carla de Aranzamendi is a Researcher at the Institute of Animal Diversity and Ecology (IDEA, CONICET-UNC) in Córdoba, Argentina and holds a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the National University of Córdoba. Her research focuses on the population genetics and phylogeography of Antarctic and South American limpets, with a broader interest in evolutionary biology processes and the effect on limpets of climate change phenomena such as ocean acidification. In recent years, she has expanded her work including the molecular taxonomy of ascidians and echinoderms, aiming to unravel the true diversity of these two groups and detect the presence of invasions in Argentina.

Carla has participated in Antarctic research campaigns and an oceanographic expedition aboard the ARA Puerto Deseado (CONICET), contributing to studies on marine biodiversity and evolutionary processes. She has worked as a visiting scientist several times at the Alfred Wegener Institute (Germany) and Ghent University (Belgium), strengthening her collaborations in marine biodiversity research. Throughout her career, she has been awarded several fellowships to support her international research activities.

This will be Carla’s first ‘Talud Continental’ expedition, where she looks forward to contributing to the exploration and documentation of Argentina’s deep-sea biodiversity, continuing her dedication to studying marine evolutionary patterns.
