Nahuel Farias is a marine biologist affiliated with the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET), Argentina. He performs his research at the Invertebrate Zoology and Marine Invertebrate Biodiversity laboratories of the Institute of Marine and Coastal Research (IIMyC, CONICET-UNMdP) based on the National University of Mar del Plata (UNMdP), where he teaches ecology.

His interests include biogeography, taxonomy, life history and ecology of marine invertebrates, with a particular focus on decapod crustaceans. He has extensive experience at sea from numerous fishing campaigns, offshore seismic surveys and scientific expeditions, including the first to explore the biodiversity of the Mar del Plata Canyon.

Nahuel is actively involved in the management of marine biodiversity datasets and collections, including the Decapod Crustaceans of the Southwestern Atlantic, which contains all known decapods collected from the Canyon to date. During and after his Ph.D. studies, he conducted research on decapod phylogenetics at the University of Regensburg, Germany.

Nahuel obtained both his doctorate and licentiate in Biological Sciences from the UNMdP.

This is a long-awaited chance for him to return to the depths of the canyon and see the creatures he knows only as specimens in a collection come to life.
