Mariano I. Martinez is an Associate Researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina (CONICET), based at the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales “Bernardino Rivadavia” (MACN) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He also serves as an Associate Professor from CAECE University. Mariano is a biologist specializing in echinoderms from both shallow and deep-sea environments, with a particular focus on the biodiversity and reproductive biology of sea cucumbers. He is a member of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) Sea Cucumber Specialist Group and the IUCN Red List Sea Cucumber Working Group. He earned his Licenciatura in Biological Science from the University of Buenos Aires in 2008 and completed his Ph.D. at the same institution in 2014. He has participated in several scientific cruises, including expeditions involving deep-sea sampling. This expedition marks his first time aboard the Falkor (too) and represents an exciting opportunity to build on his past experience, leading to new insights, discoveries, and future opportunities in deep-sea research.
