Jessica is a Lic. In Biological Sciences from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos Aires (FCEyN – UBA) and is currently a Ph.D. student at the FCEyN – UBA, working at the Laboratorio de Ecosistemas Marinos (LEMar) of the Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales, “Bernardino Rivadavia” (MACN – CONICET) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The axis of her research are the morphological and genetic characters, the reproductive traits and biogeography of sea pens (Cnidaria: Anthozoa: Scleralcyonacea) from the South Atlantic Ocean off Argentina. She applies scanning electron microscopy (SEM), molecular tools and histological techniques.
In 2022 she completed research stays at the invertebrate collection of the Zoological Museum of Hamburg, Germany.
Jessica has received two international grants, a PADI Foundation Grant and an IDEA WILD grant. This will be her first deep-sea research cruise, this way she is exited to expand her knowledge about deep-sea invertebrates and environments, particularly species from the superfamily Pennatuloidea and the habitats these animals form, since are considered as important ecosystem engineers and indicators of vulnerable marine ecosystems.
