Titus Cañete is a marine biologist based in the Philippines, specializing in shark research and deep-sea conservation. As shark populations decline, he and his team work to develop strategies that protect these species while ensuring local communities benefit from conservation efforts. Titus is dedicated to expanding local accessibility to deep-sea research and conservation technology, developing low-cost underwater sensors and cameras to enable exploration in areas with limited access.

With experience in multiple conservation organizations, Titus has contributed to establishing marine protected areas, identifying Important Shark and Ray Areas, and currently assesses the impacts of deep-sea shark fisheries in the Philippines. His research combines fisher knowledge and underwater camera data to study deep-sea chondrichthyans.

Committed to community engagement and citizen science, he aims to collect baseline data to support the creation of deep-sea marine protected areas in the Philippines, while fostering global collaboration in deep-sea research.
