Constanza Perales is a geologist from the Volcano Surveillance Network of SERNAGEOMIN (Geological and Mining Survey of Chile), which is the country’s official institution in charge of instrumental monitoring and hazard mapping of all active volcanoes. Her work has been focused on geological studies from a field perspective and hazard volcanic assessment employing several methodologies, particularly in southern chilean volcanoes. She led the Michinmahuida volcano hazard map and coauthored the Melimoyu volcano hazard map, both located near the coast in the Chilean Patagonia. She has actively collaborated with academics from national and international institutions to improve data collection, processing, and modelling framed within volcanic hazard and risk management initiatives. In addition, Constanza develops technical inputs for volcanic disaster risk reduction and participates in the crisis response team.

Constanza obtained her Geology degree from the University of Concepción. She is very excited about joining Falkor (too) expedition, to contribute to identifying different submarine volcanic deposits and their possible origin. This experience will help enhance the understanding of volcanic deposits, processes, and impacts for the Patagonia region, where eruptions have affected both continental and marine areas.
