Hugo Montoro is a retired Captain of the Peruvian Navy, specializing in Hydrography and Navigation. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Naval Sciences from the Naval Academy, a Master’s degree in Earth Sciences from the University of New Hampshire, USA, and a Master’s degree in Maritime Strategy from the Naval War College. He also holds a diploma in Law and Ocean Policy from the Rhodes Academy in Greece. His professional experience encompasses oceanography, hydrography, and nautical charting; hydrographic surveys, Antarctic expeditions, and research in Amazonian rivers. He teaches Maritime and Inland Hydrography, Navigation, Geography, Oceanography, and Meteorology. Montoro is a member of the Geographical Society of Lima and the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), an organization dedicated to the global understanding of the seafloor.
