Hope Ianiri is a marine biogeochemist and Mendenhall postdoctoral fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. Broadly, her research interests include the marine organic carbon and nitrogen cycles and long-term carbon storage in marine environments. Her work at USGS aims to quantify and characterize organic carbon stored in marine mineral host sediments, including hydrothermal systems which host seafloor massive sulfide deposits. She applies a range of analytical tools such as elemental, isotopic, and spectroscopic measurements of sedimentary organic matter as well as biomarker analyses.

Hope has a Ph.D. in ocean sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a B.S. in chemistry from Northeastern University. Outside the lab, she is likely to be found biking, hiking, or snowboarding.
