Kyra is a recent graduate from Hawaii Pacific University with a BS in Marine Biology. Although she originally grew up in a landlocked state, her passion for the ocean truly bloomed from the heart and took her thousands of miles away to the islands in order to to study science in college. During her time at HPU, she studied abroad in New Zealand through the SEA Semester program, gaining experience with sea going research and tall ship sailing. She instantly fell in love with ship life and being in the heart of data collection.

While her main career goals in marine science are marine mammal or shark research, conservation is also very important to her. Living in Hawaii allows for many opportunities to participate in beach clean-ups and support local efforts such as Sustainable Coastlines and Hawaii EcoStraws. In her free time she enjoys freediving as well as watching shark week.
