Steve is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Biology at Boston University. He is broadly interested in the ecology of deep-sea corals. His research focuses understanding the distribution, diversity, and evolutionary relationships among deep-water corals in the Phoenix Islands. Steve has participated as a scientist at sea, as well as ashore, on several expeditions aboard the E/V Nautilus and NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, North American Pacific coast, and central Pacific Ocean. Steve received his BS in Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point followed by an MS in Marine Biology at the University of Maine, and PhD in Biology at Temple University. He is broadly interested in coral biogeographic distribution patterns in the deep-sea from the tropics to polar latitudes and how oceanography might influence evolution of organisms in the deep ocean.
