As part of Dr. Chris Roman’s lab group, Ben Grassian uses remote sensing (imaging and acoustic) platforms to describe biological communities and associated processes in the midwater environment. He is currently developing tools to derive relevant information from these systems to interrogate the complex linkages between local hydrography and organismal habits in a region of the ocean that is often difficult to properly sample.

Ben Grassian has worked in the fields of plankton ecology, remote sensing, cell biology, and coral reef geomorphology and ecology.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Marine Science  from University of Miami/ Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in 2013 and joined Dr. Chris Romans lab group at University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography in 2015.
