Jen Karolewski is a PhD student in the MIT/WHOI Joint Program advised by Scott Wankel. Her research focus is on the study of coupled cycling reactions between manganese and nitrogen in aquatic systems using stable isotopes of nitrogen and oxygen. She has also worked using isotopes to investigate sources of nitrous oxide (N2O) in the eastern tropical north Pacific oxygen minimum zone.

In 2015, she completed a double major in Chemistry and Geochemistry at Caltech. Prior to beginning her graduate studies, she worked at WHOI as a Summer Student Fellow in 2014 studying marsh productivity with Rachel Stanley.
