Dr. Daniel Wagner is a marine ecologist with NOAA’s Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument. He has conducted research on Hawaii’s mesophotic coral ecosystems (reefs found at depths between 30-150 m) for close to a decade, and has participated in numerous expeditions that have surveyed such deeper habitats using technical SCUBA diving, manned submersibles, and remotely operated vehicles. Daniel’s special interest in this cruise is to map mesophotic coral ecosystems within the Monument, in order to design systematic surveys of the biology and ecology of these understudied environments in the near future.
