Dr. Chuck Fisher is a deep-sea ecologist whose research interests cover the physiology and ecology of animals harboring chemoautotrophic symbionts, such as cold seep tube worms and deep-sea corals. He has worked extensively with submersible and robotic vehicles as he studied these communities in their extreme environments.

Dr. Fisher serves as one of the principal investigators for the ECOGIG project studying deep sea environmental impacts of Deepwater Horizon oil spill.  With his colleagues, Chuck documented direct effects of the oil spill upon deep-sea coral communities in the vicinity of the blown-out wellhead. During this cruise aboard R/V Falkor, he plans to use advanced imaging capabilities of ROV Global Explorer MK3 to continue long-term monitoring of several specific coral communities.
