Philip F. Yang is a PhD student at the University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography. Philip works with Dr. Andrew Davies in the Marine Ecology and Technology lab. He is currently a NOAA Dr. Nancy Foster Scholar studying mesophotic reef ecosystems in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Philip’s oceanographic interests span observatory and modeling techniques, from in situ instrumentation to species distribution models. After receiving his BS in Biology from Villanova University in 2021, Philip spent a year working with the US Forest Service in SD and Fulbright Philippines through USAID Fish Right. In his free time, Phil likes trying new foods, biking, playing basketball and other sports, and many other outdoor activities.
