Dr. Maia Hoeberechts is a member of the Ocean Networks Canada science team based at the University of Victoria. In her role as Staff Scientist for Engineering and Computational Research, she serves as the key liaison for external researchers working with Ocean Networks Canada in the areas of Computer Science and Engineering. Her responsibilities include fostering interdisciplinary projects in academia and industry, supporting graduate student research, and participating in scientific outreach activities. Present research areas include automated detection of events in undersea video, modelling and simulation of undersea networks, acoustic positioning systems, and data visualization.
Maia holds a PhD in Computer Science in the area of computability theory and a BSc in Philosophy and Computer Science from the Western University. Her doctoral research focused on the interface between theory and practice in computer science.
