Biologist Jose Santamaría works at Peruvian Sea Research Institute (IMARPE), where he is part of the Biodiversity Area Team since 2018. He is in charge of the Institutional Scientific Collection, the largest biological collection focused on marine species from Peru. His research focuses on the taxonomy of marine invertebrates, particularly crustaceans and molluscs. He is also involved in ecological studies focused on benthic communities.

José received his B.Sc. in Biological Sciences from San Marcos University, Lima, Peru. During his career, he has participated in a few national scientific cruises along Peruvian  waters. He is very excited to be part of a deep sea expedition at Nasca Ridge National Reserve.
