Matilde is geophysicist currently working at OGS (Italy) with an IODP postdoctoral fellowship studying the sediments of the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Previously, she was at IPGP (Paris) using advanced seismic methods to characterize the sediments at the equatorial Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
She specializes in signal and seismic processing but her interests span a variety of geophysical studies and instruments. Her research is mainly focused on Antarctica (East Antarctica, the Pacific margin and the Ross Sea) and, from 2024, she is the SCAR (Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research) fellow for the Geoscience group.
She normally works on projects which involve a strong integration between various disciplines (paleoclimatology, paleoceanography, sedimentology, geology, geochemistry etc.). Her studies often encompass fluid-systems and volcanism.
Matilde participated in several oceanographic surveys, working both as a technician and as a scientist. In this cruise, she will be the leader of the Hydroacoustics Team, which will provide an essential contribution to the other teams through mapping and sediment characterization.
Matilde has a Masters degree in Physics and a PhD in Earth Science and Fluid Mechanics from the University of Trieste (Italy).
