Gabrielle Stedman is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa in the Department of Oceanography. She is working to characterize the demersal zooplankton and meiofaunal community of the Clarion-Clipperton Zone. Using both taxonomic and genetic approaches, she will provide baseline assessments of this important community prior to polymetallic mining in the next decade.
Her previous research focused on coastal systems including 1) diatom physiologic and genetic responses to salinity change and 2) use of macroinvertebrates as bioindicators of stream quality. Her time at the University of Washington’s Friday Harbor Labs in 2017 confirmed her passion for marine invertebrates and interest in pursuing graduate school. She received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 2018 beforing joined Dr. Erica Goetze’s lab the same year. Gabrielle is excited to take part in her first research cruise aboard the Falkor.
