Brendan is a second-year graduate student working towards his Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Brendan holds the B.Sc. (’18) and M.Sc. (’19) degrees from the same institution and is currently pursuing the following research projects: (1) fiber optic distributed sensing for hydrodynamic parameter estimation via fiber Bragg gratings; (2) development and deployment of a distributed temperature sensing system for monitoring hydrothermal vent fields; (3) foreign object detection via boundary condition approximations and hydrofoil boundary layer (pressure) sensing; and (4) control of autonomous underwater vehicles in stratified fluids and near surface operations.
On top of academia, Brendan is also an Ocean Systems Engineer within Lockheed Martin Corporation, Rotary Mission Systems (C6ISR). His primary role is transitioning technologies through the SBIR/STTR program and collaborating with small businesses to grow defense capabilities.
