Kate Herries is a Master’s candidate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her current research focuses on reconstructing sea level rise during the last deglaciation. She received her bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in 2016 from Missouri University of Science and Technology. There she conducted research on the paleoclimate of Storr’s Lake, a hypersaline lake on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas.

Kate first joined the Schmidt team as a science team member aboard Falkor for “Unraveling Sea Level Secrets” cruise. While on the ship, Kate learned about SOI and their goals for the future of science, research, and outreach. Wanting to do more, she now joins the team as the Science Communications Intern, working with Carlie and Logan, to spread SOI’s message to the world.
