R/V FALKOR (too) – Hiring Job Information – Purser
Tendering:
Start date for tendering position: 15 August 2023
End date for tendering position: 20 September 2023
Start date: 13th October 2023, subject to minor change.
During the tendering timeframe the Company will collect CVs.
Interviews with the shortlisted candidates will be held in the week after the tendering end date.

Job Description:
- The Purser
● Is the Head of Department of the Interior Department. Reports directly to the Captain.
● Is the line-manager for 1 Chief-Stewardess, 2 Stewardesses and 2 Chefs.
● Is responsible for administering all ship-board financial accounts, such as cash-accounts, credit-card accounts.
● Is responsible to track invoices and the purchase overview of all departments.
● Is working closely with our shore-side financial staff.
● Is responsible for all crew administration onboard (travel arrangements, crew certificates, joining/leaving routines).
● Works with the company’s human resources administration software ADONIS (rotation planning, crew-certificates, payroll, crew travel, crew lists).
● Is administering stock, planned maintenance tasks, defect reports for the Interior Department in the ship management software TM Master.
● Works with our ISM, Safety and Reporting Software Unisea.
● Is responsible for port clearances and all related matters (customs, immigration).
● Assists the Captain with general administration, as required.
● Coordinates the service, housekeeping, laundry and Galley duties with Chief Stew.
● Is responsible for the purchasing of interior consumables together with Chief Stewardess.
● Is responsible for purchasing stationery and office supplies.
● Is interfacing with the guest/scientists on administrational and service matters.
● Takes over safety and security duties as per the ships muster list.
● Shall assist with other tasks as directed by the Captain.
General Requirements for all crew:
- Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training.
● Valid seafarers medical fitness certificate (ENG1 or equivalent).
● Proficiency Designated with Security Duties Certificate.
● Good knowledge of the English language.
● US Visa (B-1/B-2), as required by nationality.
● Drug test will be done on the first day of employment.
● Clean Criminal Record.
● Background check will be done prior to employment.
Specific requirements for this position:
- Previous experiences on cruise ships and/or large yachts.
- Degree in Business Administration or similar is an advantage.

- The ability to work extended hours and remain flexible, within MLC requirements, while at sea in remote locations on at-sea voyages of up to two months in duration.
- Going the “extra mile” to adapt to the special demands of a research vessel on every expedition.
- Interest in oceanographic science and a positive attitude towards the marine environment.
- Thinking outside the box; new ideas and initiatives which are realistic and viable are always welcome.
