Job Description:

The AV/IT Engineer reports aboard to the Chief Engineer and the shoreside Company IT Manager.
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
● AV: Responsible for all audio & video distribution around the vessel including CCTV, Video Router, Video Modulation, Video over IP, Audio Over IP, conference systems, video broadcasting, Audio Routing, Entertainment systems, Sat TV, AV control systems.
● IT: In charge of the ship’s IT infrastructure, virtualization ESXi, cybersecurity, networking, wireless, data management, backups, domain controllers. Firewall and networking, monitoring, UPS and PDUs, fiber optics, WIFI, Supports multiple OS, servers, workstations and mobile devices, Cloud computing. Assist all crewmembers and scientists at all times.
● Communications: Responsible for UHF, DAS, Duplex voice systems, PBX.
● VSAT and LEO: Knowledge on satellite systems is required. Valid certifications for VSAT antennas is highly desired.
● Knowledge in Bridge equipment (IBS integrated bridge systems, NMEA, GMDSS, GPS/AIS, Steering and autopilot etc.) and ship’s electrical systems (electrical systems including switch boards, electrical cabinets, wiring, UPS, freq drives, motors, inverters) are beneficial.
● Technical documentation: Be capable of reading technical drawings and keep the documentation up to date. AutoCAD.
● Reporting skills and good track of daily tasks in an open and collaborative manner.
● The AV/IT Engineer will work together with the ship’s Electro Technical Officer and form the electrical team within the ship’s Engine Department. The ETO and AV/IT Engineer are required to assist each other if necessary, and to make sure they each know the basics of the other crewmember’s job and what is going on in their part of the electrical team.
● Assist the ETO as required by the Chief Engineer or IT Manager.
● Assist the visiting scientists and the ship’s Science Department Marine Technicians during expeditions to achieve common goals.
● Be familiar with all assigned security duties, both at sea and in port.
● Maintain records and stocks of spares and consumable stores
● All other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.
● Works as Helpdesk agent.
● Provide training to the crew in regards to cybersecurity and ship’s architecture.

General Requirements for all crew:
● Valid STCW95 Basic Safety Training
● Valid seafarers medical fitness certificate (ENG1 or equivalent)
● Proficiency Designated with Security Duties Certificate
● Good written and verbal knowledge of the English language
● Drug test will be done on first few days of employment
● Clean criminal record; Background check will be done prior to employment
