Dan has been a scientist with NOAA’s Pacific Islands Regional Office Observer Program for the past five years.  He specializes in investigating protected species interactions, and works at developing and analyzing strategies aimed at reducing seabird, sea turtle, and marine mammal bycatch in the Hawaii longline fisheries.  He has previously worked with NOAA as a monk seal biologist and as a fisheries observer. On this cruise, Dan will be supervising a study examining the effect of multi-beam seafloor mapping sonar on marine mammal behavior.

Dan lives in Honolulu and will be getting married in the fall to his beautiful fiancé Meagan.  They have a pet fish.
